EMERGE Celebrates Youth Art
For six weeks in summer 2014, children living in EMERGE housing programs learned to look at North Minneapolis in new ways. Through a partnership with EDIT, a Minneapolis nonprofit that promotes equity through the arts, 21 youth (ages 7 to 13) learned to use cameras to tell stories of what their community means to them.
Earlier this year, the photos were made into a collage and installed in the newly restored EMERGE Career & Technology Center (ECTC). Last week, Link youth were recognized for their achievement and their families were invited to the ECTC to view the art installation.
Attendees at the celebration enjoyed the kids' performance of an original rap song, a poetry reading, and a photo cake featuring the art installation. The children were recognized for their photos one by one. We were thrilled to be able to provide this special night for the children and their families!
The EMERGE Link program provides out-of-school programming to children
living with their families in EMERGE housing programs. They are now gearing up for a summer of biking, swimming lessons, rock climbing lessons and summer camp!
