Deanne's Story: Dedicated to Service
Feeling a need to shift from the corporate arena, longtime Northside resident Deanne Vaughan decided to make an impact on the community by completing a year of service with EMERGE's VISTA program.
During the 2011-2012 service year, as the Financial Resource Specialist, Deanne worked closely with EMERGE staff to provide basic financial literacy training for our participants. She played a key role building capacity that allowed EMERGE participants to learn about budgeting, predatory lending, credit scores, and more. Financial literacy is key to helping participants achieve self-sufficiency.
When asked what was most rewarding about serving as a VISTA Deanne stated, “The most rewarding part is seeing how EMERGE continues to change lives using the resources I set the foundation for.”
After serving as an EMERGE VISTA, Deanne continued her career in the social sector. Now working at EMERGE partner Northside Achievement Zone, she continues to dedicate her life to service. When asked about how her VISTA experience influenced her career choice, Deanne said, “Service is a part of my life. Being a VISTA allowed me to serve my community and helped me to instill those values in my family as well.”
